1947 German Ford
Coach built German body on a Ford chassis, customized and modernized.
Steve’s Auto Restorations transformed this ultra-rare German coachbuilt 1937 Ford into a one-of-a-kind custom street rod, blending elegance, refined style, and performance while honoring its unique European heritage.
Extensive metal work reshaped and updated the original body lines, with careful attention given to preserving the distinctive coachbuilt proportions. The fixed steel windshield, roll-up windows, and folding top were replaced with a custom Duvall-style windshield, roadster-style door tops, and a hand-formed aluminum Carson-style hardtop. The windshield was moved rearward, the hood lengthened, and a custom handmade ’37 Ford–inspired grille and new hood sides were fabricated to complete the redesigned front end.
Original ’37 Ford front fenders fitted with ’39 Ford headlights were merged into one-off running boards, which tie into custom rear fenders housing ’39 Lincoln taillights. A reverse fender reveal runs the full length of the fenders and running boards, accented by hand-shaped, chrome-plated trim inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 540K. The factory trunk was replaced with a fully hand-crafted rear body panel that flows seamlessly from the roofline.
Inside, the cabin features high-quality furniture-grade leather upholstery, with dash inserts finished in a hand-painted mother-of-pearl effect. Modern gauges maintain their original German-language markings. Comfort amenities include power seats, stereo system, air conditioning, tilt steering column, power steering, power disc brakes, and automatic transmission.
Underneath, the chassis is equipped with 4-wheel independent suspension, 4-wheel power disc brakes, a Ford C6 automatic transmission, and a Ford SVO 514 EFI crate engine.
